Free Image Tools to Resize, Crop, Edit and Convert Photos

Quick image jobs rarely justify opening a full photo editor: shrinking a picture for an upload form, cropping to a square, hiding a number before sharing a screenshot, or opening an iPhone photo on a PC. These tools do one job each with visual controls, and your pictures are processed on your own device.

All 16 image tools, by type

Each group explains what its tools are for, so you can find the right one without scrolling a long list.

Resize, crop and reshape (4)

Change the size or shape of a picture: scale it to exact dimensions, crop to a ratio, mirror it horizontally or vertically, or cut it into a circle for avatars. Use these before uploading to a site with size limits.

Edit and annotate (4)

Change what a picture shows: put text on it, apply filters and color adjustments, join several photos into a collage, or hide sensitive details with blur, pixelation or a solid black box.

Convert and extract (4)

Move pictures between formats and pull data out of them: iPhone HEIC to JPG, SVG vectors to PNG, images to Base64 text for code, and the dominant colors of a photo as HEX and RGB values.

Compress to a size limit (4)

Pages for forms that cap uploads. Each one searches for the sharpest JPG that stays under 20 KB, 50 KB, 100 KB or 200 KB, lowering quality first and shrinking the picture only when it has to, then shows you the new size.

Why use FreeToolsVerse image tools

Visual controls with a preview

A crop rectangle you drag, a live filter preview and the new dimensions shown before you resize mean you see the result before you download it.

Private photos stay private

Faces, documents and screenshots with account details are drawn on your own device, which matters most for the photos you are about to censor.

Sharp at the size you choose

SVG to PNG renders again at the final size rather than stretching pixels, and the resizer can keep proportions, crop to fill or stretch to an exact frame.

Helpers for designers and developers

Extract a palette as HEX and RGB, produce five ready-to-paste Base64 formats, or render an icon at 4x without opening a design app.

One bad file does not stop a batch

When a HEIC photo cannot be converted, the tool reports it by name and carries on with the rest, so a large batch is not lost to one damaged file.

How these tools are built and checked

These tools draw your picture onto an HTML canvas in the browser and export with the browser's own PNG, JPG and WebP encoders, so nothing is sent away. The maths for percentage sizes, aspect-ratio locks and centred or clamped crop boxes is covered by automated tests. HEIC decoding uses the heic2any library, and SVG rendering is done at the final pixel size. Each page states its real limits, for example 10,000 pixels per side and 100 megapixels for the resizer, 8,192 pixels for SVG to PNG, and 10 MB for Base64, and explains quality trade-offs plainly, such as that cropping or enlarging cannot add detail.

Image Tools: frequently asked questions

Why does my enlarged image look blurry?

Enlarging cannot add detail that was never captured, so the software has to guess new pixels and the result looks soft. Resize down from the largest original you have, keep that original, and use cropping carefully, because a small crop from a small picture stays small.

Is blur or a black box safer for hiding a number in a photo?

A black box is safer because it replaces the pixels completely. Blur and pixelation keep some of the original information, and light settings can leave text guessable. Photo Censor offers all three and saves a new PNG, so share that file rather than the original.

Why are my HEIC photos bigger after converting to JPG?

HEIC is a more efficient format, so the same picture takes more space as JPG. You can lower the quality slider to reduce the size, at the cost of some detail. PNG output will be larger still, so choose it only when you need lossless copies.

Why does SVG to PNG miss my fonts or linked pictures?

The converter draws the SVG in your browser and does not fetch fonts or images that the file loads from other websites. Convert text to outlines and embed pictures before exporting. The SVG also needs a width and height or a viewBox so its size can be worked out.

When should I use Image to Base64 instead of a normal image file?

Use it for very small images, such as icons, that you want inside HTML, CSS or JSON. Base64 makes the data about a third larger and cannot be cached separately, so photos are better as normal files. It is also not encryption, because anyone can decode it.

Which file format do the image editing tools save?

Flip Image, Image Filters, Collage Maker, Round Image, Add Text to Image and Photo Censor download PNG, which is lossless and keeps transparency but can be large for photos. Image Cropper and Image Resizer let you choose PNG, JPG or WebP. Shrink a big PNG afterwards with the Image Compressor.

Why don't extracted colors match the exact pixels in my photo?

The Image Color Extractor samples pixels and groups similar shades into coarse steps, then ranks the groups by how often they appear. You get a representative palette rather than an exact pixel reading. Use a color picker on the original image when you need an exact value.
