Free Online Video Tools That Edit Files in Your Browser
Shrink a clip to fit an upload limit, cut out the dead air, join takes into one file, fix a sideways phone recording or pull the audio out as an MP3. The video tools run ffmpeg inside your browser tab, so footage of family, customers or unreleased work stays on your device instead of going to an upload server.
Nine of the ten tools run ffmpeg.wasm in your browser tab, so your video is never uploaded. The screen recorder uses the browser's own capture and keeps the recording in the page.

Engine loaded only when needed
The ffmpeg engine is fetched from our own site when you pick a file, about 10 MB on first use, so pages that never process video do not load it.
📏
Clear limits
Files up to 500 MB are accepted, with a warning above 150 MB. The reverser handles the first 30 seconds at up to 480p, and the splitter makes at most 24 parts.
✂️
Lossless where the job allows
The muter copies the picture without re-encoding, and the trimmer and splitter have a fast mode that copies streams. Tools that must re-encode write H.264 video in an MP4.
Most popular video tools
The tools most visitors start with, and what each one is for.
What resolution and quality settings really do to video file size, how to meet an upload or email limit, and how to trim, rotate or mute first to save even more.
Each group explains what its tools are for, so you can find the right one without scrolling a long list.
Shrink and convert (2)
Make a video smaller for email, messaging or upload limits, or keep just the sound. The compressor re-encodes to H.264 and AAC in an MP4, and the MP3 converter extracts audio at the bitrate you choose.
Keep the part you need, break a long recording into pieces, or assemble several clips into one. The trimmer and splitter offer a fast mode that copies streams and a precise mode that re-encodes for exact cuts.
Correct footage that was recorded the wrong way or change how it plays: rotate and mirror it, change its speed from 0.25x to 4x, strip the audio track, or play it in reverse.
Record what is on your screen using the browser's built-in screen capture, with optional system sound and microphone, then download the WebM file or run it through the compressor to get an MP4.
ffmpeg.wasm runs inside the browser tab, so personal videos, client work and unreleased material are not uploaded for processing. The screen recorder also keeps its recording in the page.
No watermark and no sign-up
The output is your video and nothing else: no overlay is added, no account is needed, and files up to 500 MB are accepted for every file-based tool.
Lossless where the job allows it
Muting copies the picture untouched, and Fast mode in the trimmer and splitter copies streams without re-encoding, so quality is unchanged and even large files finish quickly.
Output that plays almost everywhere
Tools that re-encode write H.264 video in an MP4 that is laid out to start playing before the whole file has downloaded, a format current browsers and phones handle.
Honest about browser limits
Browsers are slower than desktop editors, so long or high-resolution files take time. Files over 500 MB are refused, the reverser covers 30 seconds, and each limit is stated on its tool page.
How these tools are built and checked
Nine of the ten tools share one wrapper around ffmpeg.wasm 0.12. It first reads each file's duration, size, frame rate and audio track, then runs a command built by plain functions in a separate module that has its own test script, so the exact ffmpeg arguments for every tool are tested instead of assembled ad hoc in the page. Re-encoding uses x264 with yuv420p pixels and MP4 output arranged for fast start, while muting and fast cuts copy streams instead. The screen recorder is the exception: it uses the browser's Screen Capture and MediaRecorder APIs, with no ffmpeg step.
Are my videos uploaded when I compress or trim them?
No. When you choose a file, the page loads ffmpeg.wasm, a WebAssembly build of ffmpeg, from our own site and runs it inside your browser tab. Your file is read into your device's memory, processed there, and the result is offered as a download. Only the engine's files travel to you; your video does not travel to us.
How small will the Video Compressor make my file?
That depends on the footage. You pick a maximum height (original, 1080p, 720p, 480p or 360p) and a quality level (high, balanced or smallest), which use x264 quality settings of 23, 28 and 33. You cannot type a target size, so if the result is still too big, compress the original again at a lower height or quality. Screen recordings usually shrink more than busy, high-motion footage.
What is the difference between Fast and Precise cutting?
Fast mode, available in the Video Trimmer and Video Splitter, copies the video and audio without re-encoding, so it is quick and lossless, but a cut can only start at a keyframe and the clip may begin slightly earlier than you typed. Precise mode re-encodes to H.264 and cuts exactly where you set, at the cost of extra processing time and a small quality loss.
Why is my video slow to process or rejected?
Files over 500 MB are refused and anything over 150 MB triggers a warning, because the whole file is held in browser memory. Processing is also slower than desktop software. Close other heavy tabs, trim the clip first, or lower the resolution in the compressor. If a file cannot be read, it may be corrupted or in an unsupported format.
What format does the Screen Recorder save, and will it play everywhere?
It records with your browser's MediaRecorder and saves a WebM file using the VP9 codec. WebM plays in Chrome, Edge and Firefox, but some phones and editors prefer MP4. To convert, drop the recording into the Video Compressor, which accepts WebM and writes an H.264 MP4.
Can I extract MP3 audio from any video?
If the video contains an audio track, yes. MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and most other formats work, and you can preview the audio before downloading. Use 128 kbps for speech, 192 kbps for general listening, or 256 or 320 kbps for music. MP3 is lossy, so converting audio that is already compressed cannot improve its quality.
Why does the Video Reverser stop at 30 seconds?
Reversing needs every frame held in memory at once, which a browser tab cannot do for long, high-resolution video. The tool therefore reverses the first 30 seconds, limits the picture to 480p and reverses the sound too. To reverse a particular section, trim it first with the Video Trimmer, then reverse the result.
