Convert PDF files to editable Word documents.
The PDF to Word Converter reads the text from a PDF file and saves it as an editable Word document (.docx), with paragraphs rebuilt and a page break for each PDF page. Choose a PDF, click Convert, and download a .docx that opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice or Pages. The file is processed entirely in your browser and is never uploaded.
Made for everyone. Typical uses:
A 12-page PDF report opens as a Word document with the report's text split into paragraphs and a page break wherever the PDF started a new page, ready to edit, restyle and track changes on, instead of retyping it by hand.
It converts the text content only. Fonts, colors, images, tables and multi-column layouts are not recreated, so complex designs come out as plain paragraphs. Scanned or image-only PDFs contain no selectable text, so they need OCR first, and password-protected PDFs must be unlocked before converting.
Accuracy: Conversions use well-known methods and are tested with real sample inputs. Check the output before you send or publish it.
Expert Tip
Leave "Keep original line breaks" off for normal prose so sentences reflow into proper paragraphs when you edit. Turn it on for addresses, poems, code or lists, where each line matters.
A PDF stores where every letter goes on a page, not what the paragraphs, headings and tables are. Converting it to Word means guessing the structure from positions. This tool reads the text from each page, rebuilds paragraphs, and saves a .docx with a page break for every PDF page, which you can open in Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice or Pages and edit like any other document.
It works best on text-heavy documents: letters, articles, reports, contracts and books. It does not recreate complicated designs exactly, so brochures with many columns, text over pictures, tables with merged cells and decorative layouts will need tidying after conversion.
Some PDFs contain real text; others are pictures of paper. You can tell by trying to select a sentence in a PDF viewer. If you can highlight words, the file contains text and this tool can extract it. If the whole page highlights as one image, it is a scan, and there is no text to extract.
For scans, first turn the pages into images with PDF to JPG and then run them through OCR - Image to Text, which recognises the letters and lets you copy or save the text. Paste the result into a document and format it. The guide to how OCR works explains how to get accurate results from poor scans.
You can improve the outcome before you convert, and check a few things afterwards.
Text is extracted as Unicode, so accented letters and non-Latin scripts are kept as characters, not as pictures. The Word file uses standard fonts, so the look will differ from the original PDF. If you need to match a brand font, select all and apply it in Word. Right-to-left languages such as Arabic and Hebrew may need their paragraph direction checked after conversion.
Equations, footnotes and page numbers arrive as ordinary text. That is fine for reading and editing, but reference-style layouts such as academic articles should be checked line by line.
The PDF is read and the Word file is built inside your browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, which matters for contracts, payslips, transcripts and other files you would not want on a stranger's server. Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first with Unlock PDF.
If you only need a few sentences, select and copy them from the PDF viewer. If you need to fill in a form, a form-filling tool or the PDF viewer's own form support is more reliable than converting. If you need to keep the exact layout and only change a few words, a full PDF editor is the right tool.
