What UUID Validator does

The UUID Validator checks whether a string is a correctly formatted UUID or GUID โ€” 32 hex characters arranged in the standard 8-4-4-4-12 pattern โ€” and identifies its version from the version nibble embedded in the string. Paste in an ID and confirm it's well-formed before you reuse it, all checked locally in your browser.

How to use UUID Validator

  1. Enter the UUID or GUID string
  2. The result appears instantly as you type
  3. See whether it's valid and which UUID version it is
  4. Fix and re-check if it's flagged invalid

Who should use it

Made for developers. Typical uses:

  • Checking a UUID pulled from a database record wasn't truncated during a copy-paste
  • Confirming an API-generated identifier matches the expected version, like v4 for random IDs
  • Validating a GUID from a Windows registry key or config file before reusing it

Frequently asked questions

Is it free to use?
Yes, completely free.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No, validation runs entirely in your browser.
What's the difference between a UUID and a GUID?
They're effectively the same format โ€” GUID is simply Microsoft's name for what's standardized elsewhere as a UUID.
How does it detect the UUID version?
The 13th hex digit of a standard UUID encodes its version number (such as 1 or 4), which the tool reads to report which version it is.
Does any 32-character hex string count as a valid UUID?
No โ€” the hyphens need to be in the correct positions, and the version and variant bits need valid values, not just the right character count.
