Remove backgrounds from images instantly.
Background Remover makes a plain, evenly coloured background transparent. It reads the background colour around the edge of your picture, removes the connected area that matches (with a tolerance slider and optional edge softening), and gives you a transparent PNG. It works best on product photos, logos and graphics against a solid or near-solid background. It is a colour-based tool, not AI, and runs entirely in your browser.
Made for everyone. Typical uses:
A seller photographs a mug on a white sheet under even light. The tool samples the white around the edges, removes the connected white area at the default tolerance and returns a transparent PNG at the original size. The same mug shot on a patterned tablecloth would not work well, because the background has many different colours.
This is not AI cut-out. Photos with busy, gradient or shadowed backgrounds, hair or fur against a similar color, or subjects that share the background color will not separate cleanly. For those images use a dedicated AI background remover.
Accuracy: Output is produced in your browser and is meant for convenience. Check it before you use it for anything important.
Expert Tip
Shoot the original photo with even lighting and a background that contrasts with your subject's color and edges — the cleaner the contrast going in, the less manual touch-up you'll need on wispy details like hair afterward.
Background removal comes in two very different kinds. AI tools recognise a subject, such as a person or a product, and cut around it even against a busy background. Colour-based tools, like this one, look for a background colour and remove the pixels that match. This tool is the second kind. It reads the colour around the edge of the picture, removes the connected area that matches within your tolerance, and gives you a transparent PNG.
That makes it excellent for the pictures where it works and unsuitable for the ones where it does not. It is designed for images with a plain, even background and has no way to guess where a subject ends when the background is a street, a room or a gradient.
Colour-based removal shines on images that were created or photographed against a clean backdrop.
Two controls make most of the difference. The tolerance slider decides how different a pixel's colour can be from the background and still be removed. Raise it to remove shaded or slightly uneven backgrounds; lower it if parts of the subject start to disappear. The only remove the background connected to the edges option keeps colours inside the subject even if they match the background, so a white shirt on a white wall does not vanish entirely, although it can still merge with the wall where they touch.
The soften edge option smooths the boundary a little to reduce jagged edges. Check the result on the checkered preview, which makes transparency visible, and adjust in small steps. If a soft shadow under a product remains, raise the tolerance slightly or crop it out first with the Image Cropper.
Photos with hair or fur against a similar colour, busy backgrounds, gradients, motion blur and subjects that share colours with the background will not separate cleanly. For those, use a dedicated AI background remover, or select the subject by hand in a photo editor. Be wary of tools that promise perfect results on any photo without saying how they work.
A good approach for product photography is to shoot on plain white or a light grey sweep with even lighting from the start, then use this tool for the last step. It saves far more time than editing a poorly lit picture.
The result is a transparent PNG at the original size. If you need it smaller, use the Image Resizer; if you need a version on a solid colour for a listing that does not accept transparency, convert with the PNG to JPG converter and choose the fill colour. For web use, the Image Converter can turn it into a transparent WebP, usually smaller than PNG.
Your picture is processed entirely in your browser and is never uploaded.
