What Barcode Generator does

The Barcode Generator creates real, scannable barcodes in ten formats: Code 128, EAN-13, UPC-A, EAN-8, ITF-14, Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, Codabar, MSI Plessey and Pharmacode. It validates your input for the chosen format, calculates the check digit for EAN, UPC and ITF-14 codes, and lets you set the bar width, height and color before downloading a crisp SVG or high-resolution PNG. Everything runs in your browser.

How to use Barcode Generator

  1. Choose the barcode type (Code 128 accepts any text; EAN and UPC need digits)
  2. Enter the value to encode; the barcode appears as soon as it is valid
  3. Adjust the bar width, height, color and whether the number is shown underneath
  4. Download the PNG for documents and labels, or the SVG for print and design work

Who should use it

Made for everyone. Typical uses:

  • Creating product barcodes for inventory
  • Generating labels for asset tracking
  • Creating barcodes for event tickets and passes

Limitations and accuracy

Retail product codes (EAN and UPC) identify products worldwide, so numbers for goods sold in stores must be licensed from GS1 for your business; the tool checks the format but cannot tell whether a number is assigned. Always scan a printed barcode before relying on it.

Accuracy: Output is produced in your browser and is meant for convenience. Check it before you use it for anything important.

Frequently asked questions

Are these real, scannable barcodes?
Yes. They follow each standard's encoding rules and are drawn as proper bars and spaces, so they scan with a phone or barcode reader. The EAN and UPC patterns are decoded back to the original digits in our tests.
What is a check digit and is it added for me?
The last digit of an EAN, UPC or ITF-14 code is calculated from the others to catch scanning errors. Enter one digit fewer than the full length and the tool adds it; enter the full number and it checks the digit is correct.
Which barcode type should I choose?
Use Code 128 for general labels, inventory and shipping text. Use EAN-13 or UPC-A for retail products, ITF-14 for cartons, and Code 39 or Codabar only if a system you use requires them.
Can I use a generated EAN or UPC number to sell products?
Only if the number is licensed to you by GS1 (or a reseller). Made-up numbers may clash with real products and be rejected by marketplaces.
Is my data uploaded?
No. Barcodes are generated and downloaded entirely in your browser.
