What Age Calculator does

The Age Calculator works out exactly how old someone is on any date. Enter a date of birth and, if you like, a different "age at" date; the result is the age in years, months and days, the next birthday and how many days away it is, and running totals in months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds. It counts by birthdays and calendar months, so leap years and short months are handled correctly. It is useful for forms, eligibility cut-offs and for working out an age on a past or future date.

Features and benefits

  • Gives years, months and days, counted by calendar months instead of rough averages
  • Calculates against any date, not only today
  • Shows the next birthday and how many days away it is
  • Handles leap years, including 29 February birthdays, which it counts on 28 February in other years

How to use Age Calculator

  1. Enter the date of birth
  2. Leave "Age at the date of" as today, or choose another date
  3. Click Calculate Age
  4. Read the age in years, months and days, plus the next birthday and the running totals

Who should use it

Made for everyone. Typical uses:

  • Checking an exact age for a form or application
  • Testing whether a child will meet a school or sports age cut-off on a given date
  • Finding how old someone was (or will be) on a particular day

Example

Someone born on 15 March 1990, checked on 29 September 2026, is 36 years, 6 months and 14 days old. That is 438 months, 1,906 weeks or 13,347 days, and the next birthday is Monday 15 March 2027, 167 days away.

Limitations and accuracy

It works with calendar dates only, so hours, minutes and seconds are totals counted from midnight at the start of each date. It counts a 29 February birthday on 28 February in non-leap years, while some places use 1 March. For legal or official age checks, use the age on the official document.

Accuracy: Formulas follow standard published methods and are checked against worked reference examples. Results are estimates based on the values you enter and do not replace advice from a qualified professional.

Expert Tip

Use the option to calculate against a specific date to check eligibility for a future cutoff -- like a school enrollment date or a competition age bracket -- instead of only checking your current age.

Frequently asked questions

How do I use the Age Calculator?
Enter a date of birth. "Age at the date of" starts as today, but you can change it. Click Calculate Age to see the age in years, months and days, the next birthday and the totals.
How are the months and days counted?
It adds whole calendar months to the date of birth and counts the days left. If a month is shorter than the birth day, the date is clamped to the last day of that month, so someone born on 31 October completes a month on 30 November.
What happens with a 29 February birthday?
In years that are not leap years, the birthday is counted on 28 February. Some countries use 1 March, so check the rule that applies to you.
Can I find the age on a future date?
Yes. Change "Age at the date of" to any date on or after the date of birth, for example a school cut-off date or a retirement date.
Is my data safe?
Yes. The calculation runs in your browser and the dates you enter are not sent or stored anywhere.

Age Calculator: the complete guide

What the calculator shows

The Age Calculator works out how old someone is on any date. You enter a date of birth, and the second date, "Age at the date of", starts as today but can be changed to a past or future date. Press Calculate Age and you get the age in years, months and days, the date of the next birthday and how many days away it is, and running totals in months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds.

A worked example

Someone born on 15 March 1990, checked on 29 September 2026, is 36 years, 6 months and 14 days old. The calculator counts whole years first (36, to 15 March 2026), then whole months (six, to 15 September), then the remaining 14 days. The totals are 438 months, 1,906 weeks and 13,347 days. The next birthday falls on Monday 15 March 2027, which is 167 days away. For a person born on 5 October 2008, checked on 5 October 2026, the result is exactly 18 years, 0 months and 0 days, and the next birthday is 365 days away.

How the months and days are counted

People count age by birthdays, and months by calendar months, so the calculator does the same instead of dividing by an average month length. It adds whole months to the birth date and takes the days that remain. When a month is shorter than the birth day, the date is clamped to the last day of the month. A person born on 31 October is counted as having completed a month on 30 November, because November has no 31st. This avoids the odd results you get from rough division.

Leap-day birthdays

Someone born on 29 February has a birthday only in leap years. In other years, the calculator treats 28 February as the birthday. For a person born on 29 February 2000, checked on 5 October 2026, the age is 26 years, 7 months and 6 days and the next birthday is Sunday 28 February 2027, 146 days away. Some countries and legal systems treat 1 March as the birthday instead, so for legal purposes check the rule that applies to you.

Using a future or past date

The second date makes the tool useful beyond curiosity. You can check whether a child will meet a school or sports age cut-off on a specific day, find out how old someone was when an event took place, or see how old someone will be on a retirement or eligibility date. The date of birth must be on or before the second date, and the tool says so if it is not. For the number of days between two dates in general, use the Days Between Dates calculator, and the Pregnancy Due Date Calculator counts forward from a last period.

Limits

Hours, minutes and seconds are counted from midnight at the start of each date, so they are totals for whole days rather than a clock-accurate figure. The calculation uses calendar dates only and does not depend on time zones. For official purposes such as visas, insurance or legal eligibility, use the age on the official document. If you need to validate that a date such as 31 April actually exists, the Date Validator checks it.
