You choose a from date and a to date (the Use today links fill in the current date), and the tool shows the total days, a breakdown into years, months and days, the number of whole weeks plus leftover days, the number of weekdays and weekend days, the total number of calendar months and the number of hours. The dates can be entered in either order.

The most common source of disagreement over a date count is whether the last day is included. By default the tool counts from the earlier date up to, but not including, the later one, which is how most people count a number of nights or the days until an event. A hotel stay from 5 to 8 October is three nights. If a contract says that both the first and the last day count, tick the box and the same stay is four calendar days. Always check how your contract, visa or deadline is defined.
The weekday figure counts Monday to Friday and does not remove public holidays or company closures, and it does not allow for countries where the weekend falls on different days. Treat it as an upper limit on business days and subtract holidays by hand. This also makes it handy for estimating working time on a project, such as the weekdays between a start date and a launch date.
Months are calendar months, not blocks of 30 days. The tool adds whole months to the earlier date and counts the days left, and when the target month is shorter, it clamps to the last day. Because it works with calendar dates instead of 24-hour blocks, a change to daylight saving time never adds or removes a day. Hours are simply the number of days multiplied by 24.
