What Random Number Generator does

The Random Number Generator produces up to 1,000 whole numbers between a minimum and maximum you choose. Use "No repeats" for unique draws such as raffle winners, and "Sort ascending" for tidy lists. Numbers come from your browser's cryptographically secure random generator, with no modulo bias, so every value in the range is equally likely.

Features and benefits

  • Generates up to 1,000 whole numbers in one go, in any range including negative numbers
  • "No repeats" draws each number at most once, and "Sort ascending" orders the list
  • Uses the browser's cryptographically secure generator with rejection sampling, so every number in the range is equally likely
  • Shows the result as a comma-separated list with a copy button, ready for a spreadsheet

How to use Random Number Generator

  1. Set the minimum and maximum values
  2. Choose how many numbers you want (up to 1,000)
  3. Tick "No repeats" for unique numbers, and "Sort ascending" if you want them ordered
  4. Click Generate and copy the results

Who should use it

Made for everyone. Typical uses:

  • Picking lottery numbers and contest winners
  • Creating random test data for development
  • Generating random values for games and simulations

Example

Setting the minimum to 1, the maximum to 75, the count to 5 and ticking "No repeats" gives five different numbers from 1 to 75, one of 17,259,390 possible sets. That is the kind of draw you need for a bingo round, or to pick three raffle winners from 250 numbered tickets (2,573,000 possible groups of winners).

Limitations and accuracy

It produces whole numbers only. "No repeats" needs a range at least as large as the count you request. For passwords or secret keys, use a dedicated password generator so the value is formatted and handled properly.

Accuracy: Output is produced in your browser and is meant for convenience. Check it before you use it for anything important.

Expert Tip

For a giveaway, write down the range before you draw, tick "No repeats", ask for as many numbers as there are prizes, and keep a screenshot of the settings and the result so people can see it was fair.

Frequently asked questions

Is it truly random?
It uses the browser's cryptographically secure generator (crypto.getRandomValues) with rejection sampling, so every number in the range has an equal chance. It is fair enough for draws and giveaways.
Can I generate numbers without repeats?
Yes. Tick "No repeats". The range must contain at least as many numbers as you ask for.
How many numbers can I generate at once?
Up to 1,000 per click.
Is my data uploaded?
No. The numbers are generated in your browser.

Random Number Generator: the complete guide

What the generator does

The Random Number Generator draws whole numbers between a minimum and a maximum that you choose. Set how many numbers you want, from 1 to 1,000, and press Generate. Two options change the result: "No repeats" draws each number at most once, like pulling tickets from a hat, and "Sort ascending" puts the list in order. The result is shown as a comma-separated list with a copy button, and a single number is shown in large type.

How the numbers are chosen

The tool uses the secure random generator built into your browser, which is designed for cryptography and cannot be predicted from earlier results. Turning random bits into a number in a range needs care: the common shortcut of taking a remainder makes some numbers slightly more likely than others. This tool avoids that by rejection sampling, throwing away random values that would cause bias, so every number in the range has exactly the same chance. For "No repeats" in ranges up to 200,000 numbers, it shuffles the whole range and takes the first few, which is the fair way to draw without replacement.

Worked examples

These counts show how many different results are possible, and they explain why repeated numbers are common when repeats are allowed.

  • Five numbers from 1 to 75 with no repeats: there are 17,259,390 possible sets, as in a bingo card draw.
  • Three raffle winners from 250 tickets: there are 2,573,000 possible groups of winners.
  • Six numbers from 1 to 49: 13,983,816 combinations, the well-known 6/49 lottery odds.
  • Ten draws from 1 to 100 with repeats allowed: a 37.2 percent chance that at least one number appears twice.
  • 23 people: a 50.7 percent chance that two share a birthday, the classic birthday paradox.

Fair draws and giveaways

For a raffle or giveaway, number the entries in the order they arrive, write down the range before you draw, tick "No repeats", and ask for as many numbers as there are prizes. Keep a screenshot of the settings and the result so that people can check it was fair. The generator is suitable for classroom draws, games, picking who goes first and sampling rows from a list, but it is not a certified tool for regulated gambling or legal lotteries. For lottery-style tickets with the right number sets, use the Lottery Number Generator.

Limits and error messages

The tool produces integers only. The minimum cannot be greater than the maximum, and both must be whole numbers within plus or minus 9,007,199,254,740,991. The count must be between 1 and 1,000. With "No repeats", the range must be at least as large as the count, so you cannot draw 20 different numbers from 1 to 10, and the tool says so. Negative numbers work, for example from -50 to 50. For decimals, generate integers and divide.

Related tools

Random numbers are not passwords. For secrets, use the Password Generator, which also uses secure randomness but picks characters from a chosen set. The UUID Generator creates unique identifiers for databases, and the Percentage Calculator turns counts into chances. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is stored.
