What Schema Markup Generator does

The Schema Markup Generator builds JSON-LD structured data for nine types: Article, Product, Organization, Local business, FAQ page, HowTo, Breadcrumbs, Event and Software application. Choose a type, fill in the fields (required ones are marked with an asterisk), and the finished script tag appears with a copy button and a JSON download. A notice shows whether the required items are filled in. It runs in your browser.

Features and benefits

  • Nine types with the properties search engines use, and required fields clearly marked
  • Flags missing required and recommended properties as you type
  • Produces a ready-to-paste script tag, or a downloadable JSON file
  • Writes nested objects correctly: authors become a Person, publishers an Organization and images a list

How to use Schema Markup Generator

  1. Pick the schema type
  2. Fill in the fields, especially those marked with an asterisk
  3. Check the notice that shows whether all required properties are filled in
  4. Copy the code (or download the JSON) into the page's <head> or <body>, then test it with Google's Rich Results Test

Who should use it

Made for marketers and seo. Typical uses:

  • Adding structured data to articles, products and local business pages
  • Describing an organization, event or software application to search engines
  • Writing FAQ or HowTo markup in the correct format

Example

An Article with the headline "How to bake sourdough", an image address, the author Jane Doe, the published date 2026-09-30 and the publisher Example Media produces a script of type application/ld+json with the type Article, the author as a Person and the publisher as an Organization. The validator then notes that the recommended dateModified is missing.

Limitations and accuracy

It generates markup from what you type and does not read your page, so mark up only content that is visible there and keep values accurate; markup that does not match the page can lead to a manual action.

Accuracy: Results show what the tool can measure at the moment you run it and can differ from what search engines see. Use them as guidance.

Expert Tip

Mark up only what visitors can see on the page, and test the published page with Google's Rich Results Test. Structured data does not raise rankings by itself; it makes a page eligible for rich results.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I put the generated code?
Paste the whole <script type="application/ld+json"> block into the <head> or <body> of the page it describes.
Which types can it create?
Article, Product, Organization, Local business, FAQ page, HowTo, Breadcrumbs, Event and Software application.
Will schema markup improve my rankings?
Not directly. It helps search engines understand the page and can make it eligible for rich results. Google has also limited FAQ and HowTo rich results for most sites in recent years.
Can markup cause problems?
Yes, if it does not match the visible page. Marking up reviews, prices or questions that are not shown can lead to a manual action, so keep the values accurate.
Is my data uploaded?
No. The markup is created in your browser.

Schema Markup Generator: the complete guide

What the generator does

Structured data is code that describes a page to search engines in a standard vocabulary from schema.org. The Schema Markup Generator builds it in JSON-LD, the format Google recommends. Pick one of nine types, fill in the fields, and the finished script tag appears with a copy button and a download for the JSON. A notice shows whether the required items are filled in, and lists any that are missing. The types are Article, Product, Organization, Local business, FAQ page, HowTo, Breadcrumbs, Event and Software application.

A worked example

For an Article with the headline "How to bake sourdough", an image address, the author Jane Doe, the publication date 2026-09-30 and the publisher Example Media, the tool writes a script of type application/ld+json with the context https://schema.org and the type Article. The image becomes a list, the author becomes a Person with a name, and the publisher becomes an Organization. Because no modified date was given, the validator notes that the recommended property dateModified is missing. The required fields for each type are marked with an asterisk in the form.

The fields for each type

Each type asks only for properties that search engines use.

  • Article: headline, image, author and published date are required; modified date, publisher, logo and description are recommended.
  • Product: name, image, price and currency are required, with brand, SKU, availability, URL, rating and rating count optional.
  • Organization and Local business: name and website for an organisation; name, street and city for a local business, with phone, opening hours and price range optional.
  • FAQ page and HowTo: the questions and answers, or the steps, typed in the format shown in the placeholder.
  • Event, Breadcrumbs and Software application: name and dates, the trail of pages, or the name, category and price.

What structured data can and cannot do

Structured data does not raise rankings by itself. It helps search engines understand the page and can make it eligible for rich results such as product ratings, event details or breadcrumb trails. Google has sharply limited FAQ and HowTo rich results in recent years, so do not expect those to appear for most sites, although the markup is still valid and can help other systems read the page. There is no guarantee that any markup will be used.

Rules to follow

The markup must describe content that visitors can see on the page. Marking up reviews that do not exist, prices that are not shown or questions that are not on the page can lead to a manual action from Google. Keep the values accurate and up to date, use a full https:// address for images, and put one block for each main item on the page. Paste the code into the head or body of the page it describes.

Testing and related tools

After you publish, test the page with Google's Rich Results Test and the schema.org validator. You can also paste existing markup into the Schema Markup Validator on this site, and the FAQ Schema Generator is a faster route if you only need questions and answers. The guide to meta titles, descriptions and schema markup explains where structured data fits. The code is generated in your browser.
