What Video Muter does

Video Muter removes the audio track from a video and gives you a silent copy. The picture is copied as it is, without re-encoding, so quality is unchanged and even large files finish quickly. The video is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

How to use Video Muter

  1. Choose a video
  2. Click Remove the sound
  3. Preview the silent video
  4. Download the muted file

Who should use it

Made for creators. Typical uses:

  • Removing background noise or unwanted audio before adding a voiceover
  • Creating a silent version of a video for a specific platform's requirements
  • Stripping background music before reuploading footage

Limitations and accuracy

It removes all audio tracks and cannot mute just part of a video. If the video already has no sound, the tool tells you instead of returning an unchanged copy. Files over 500 MB are refused.

Accuracy: Video is processed with the open-source ffmpeg engine running in your browser and tested with sample clips. Check the result before you share it.

Frequently asked questions

Does muting reduce video quality?
No. Only the audio is removed; the video stream is copied without re-encoding, so the picture is identical.
Can I mute only part of the video?
No, it removes the whole audio track. To silence a section, split the video, mute the part you want and merge the parts.
How do I know the sound was removed?
The preview plays without sound, and the downloaded file contains no audio track at all.
How large a video can I use?
Files up to 500 MB. Very large or high-resolution videos can take several minutes because a browser is slower than desktop software, and they need free memory, so close other heavy tabs first.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. The video is processed on your own device by ffmpeg running inside your browser, so it never leaves your computer or phone. The first time you use any video tool, your browser downloads the video engine once (roughly 10 MB) and reuses it afterwards.
