What Video Trimmer does

Video Trimmer cuts a video to the section you want by setting a start and end time in seconds. Choose Precise to re-encode and cut exactly where you set, or Fast to copy the video without re-encoding (quicker and lossless, but the cut snaps to the nearest earlier keyframe). Processing happens in your browser.

How to use Video Trimmer

  1. Choose a video; its length is shown
  2. Enter the start and end times in seconds
  3. Pick Precise (exact cut) or Fast (no re-encoding)
  4. Click Trim video, preview the clip and download it

Who should use it

Made for creators. Typical uses:

  • Cutting a highlight clip out of a longer recording
  • Removing dead space from the start or end of a video
  • Extracting a specific moment to share separately

Limitations and accuracy

Fast mode can only start at a keyframe, so the clip may begin a little earlier than the time you entered. Precise mode re-encodes, so it takes longer and slightly recompresses the video. Files over 500 MB are refused.

Accuracy: Video is processed with the open-source ffmpeg engine running in your browser and tested with sample clips. Check the result before you share it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Precise and Fast?
Precise re-encodes the clip so it starts and ends exactly where you set. Fast copies the existing video data without re-encoding, which is quick and keeps full quality, but it can only cut at keyframes, so the start may be earlier than requested.
Does trimming reduce quality?
Fast mode does not change quality at all. Precise mode re-encodes at high quality, so the loss is minor.
How do I choose the times?
Play your video elsewhere to note the moments, then enter them in seconds, for example 12.5 to 47. The tool shows the length of the resulting clip.
How large a video can I use?
Files up to 500 MB. Very large or high-resolution videos can take several minutes because a browser is slower than desktop software, and they need free memory, so close other heavy tabs first.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. The video is processed on your own device by ffmpeg running inside your browser, so it never leaves your computer or phone. The first time you use any video tool, your browser downloads the video engine once (roughly 10 MB) and reuses it afterwards.
